mi Centro BK’s mission is to incubate and nurture neighbor-led programming

Our goal is to enhance quality of life, foster a sense of belonging, and further economic and social development in Bed-Stuy/Clinton Hill through community-led Creative Placemaking.

  • Creative Placemaking is a multidisciplinary approach that integrates arts, culture, and community engagement to revitalize and transform public spaces and neighborhoods. It involves collaboration between artists, community members, urban planners, and other stakeholders to enhance quality of life, promote economic development, and foster a sense of belonging. This concept recognizes the role of culture and identity in shaping the physical and social environment, and it seeks to create more vibrant and sustainable communities by leveraging the collective assets of a neighborhood.

¿Quiénes Somos?

mi Centro BK is a community-led initiative providing pay-what-you-can services for all ages. Our programming is wide-ranging and ever-growing, guided by core values of connection, empowerment through the arts, and the community’s right to self-determination.

We center community through our Humans in Residence program, wherein neighbors are encouraged to submit proposals for how to use the space. Together we meet community needs, facilitate the exchange of information, ideas, and resources, and foster a network of intergenerational community care.

¿Qué Hacemos?

Cultivating Comunidad through:

  • mi Centro BK offers a space for entrepreneurs to test out businesses without committing to a full-time schedule or a brick and mortar space. We exhibit local art, host movie screenings, run training programs, and offer space to teach classes.

Submit a proposal for your program or to become an Artista in Residence through our Humans in Residence form!

  • Our adult education programs value each community member as both teacher and student. Here, teachers share skills like language, music, and dance classes, meditation and mindfulness groups, and community support groups. We host special events like dance showcases, artisan markets, food pop-ups, craft workshops, and community story hours.

  • We draw on Mi Casita’s ethos as a foundation for education programs from birth through high school. Our programs offer Spanish exposure and other skill-building opportunities for kids of all ages. Each class is tailored towards development and connection, with offerings like Spanish sing-alongs, sensory play, and storytimes from local authors.
